Chief Engineer
This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing day-to-day operational support with longer-term planning and project management.

We’re looking for an experienced Chief Engineer to lead the care and upkeep of our property, ensuring everything runs smoothly, safely and to the standard our guests expect. This is a hands-on leadership role, balancing day-to-day operational support with longer-term planning and project management.
You’ll lead a small, capable team, working closely with other departments to ensure the property is consistently presented at its best — from guest rooms and public areas through to plant and infrastructure.
This is a role for someone who is as comfortable on the tools as they are leading a team and managing projects. You’ll have a proactive, preventative approach to maintenance while ensuring compliance, safety and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and supporting the maintenance team day-to-day
Delivering a proactive and well-planned maintenance programme
Ensuring all building systems and plant are operating efficiently
Managing contractors and external service providers
Overseeing compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements
Supporting capital works and improvement projects
Managing budgets and contributing to long-term project planning
Maintaining the high standards expected of a luxury property

This is a permanent role and we're recruiting for one position.
Skills and Experience
You’ll bring a strong technical background and a practical, solutions-focused approach. Just as important is your leadership style — calm, organised and supportive, with a genuine willingness to roll up your sleeves when needed.
Proven experience in a similar role (hotel or complex property environment preferred)
Broad technical knowledge across building services (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, plant)
A hands-on, team-first approach
Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
Good understanding of NZ health and safety and compliance requirements
Previous experience of Body Corporate management preferred
Clear and professional communication style
Relevant trade qualification preferred
Valid full NZ driver licence (manual and automatic) required
